Panda MitJazz: Takeshi Nishimoto und Soon Kim

Takeshi Nishimoto (born in Fukuoka, Japan) is a classically-trained guitarist and composer who is conversant with European, Northern Indian, and American jazz classical traditions. In addition to collaborations with diverse artists late sitar master Rahul Sakyaputra to I'm Not a Gun associate John Tejada, Nishimoto has also performed extensively as a solo artist.

He received classical training from some of the world's premiere guitar players including James Smith, Scott Tennant, William Kanengiser and Brian Head. In addition to European classical music, Nishimoto also explored jazz with Joe Diorio and David Oaks. He has also had Pepe Romero as an instructor, playing in four of his master classes.

Nishimoto is currently involved in many projects, ranging from soundtracks to gallery-based sound installations. His unique style of guitar playing makes him both a much sought after collaborator and mentor for a broad range of musical project.

Soon Kim - Composer, Saxophonist. Born in Japan in 1964. Started playing saxophone at the age of 15. After graduating from high school joined various bands playing rock, blues, reggae, and jazz. Moved to New York in 1987, lived in Harlem (New York) and associated with musicians in Harlem including Ornette Coleman, Chris Walker, Calvin Weston and Jamaaladeen Tacuma. While living in New York, took lessons from Ornette Coleman and Learned Harmolodic theory. Currently formed “SOON KIM TRIO and QUARTET” and SOON KIM & TETSUYA HORI” are performing music that is a unique combination of Ornette's teaching and own ideas based on it.
